Dominant Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a historic £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
